Covid-19 has certainly changed the way we do things. I've had a 6 a.m. breakfast with friends for almost 40 years. None of us is willing to risk going into a restaurant yet, so we've tried to be creative. In March, it was darned cold.

It was temptingly warm in mid April, so I planted much of my garden. We had heavy frost May 6-9, so I worked especially hard to keep things from freezing.

We've enjoyed fresh asparagus for about 6 weeks, and I had enough rhubarb to freeze a couple packages.
My gardening is what keeps me sane in this crazy world. I've done a little biking, but between the high winds and Covid-19, it's been way less than other years.

In May I had lots of pretty flowers.
Nearly all of my biking friends are also gardeners. A few of us decided to visit each other's gardens over the next several weeks. I was thrilled to have them come visit my garden!

The BWCAW opening was postponed for a week, and so was our usual May trip. We felt very lucky to be able to get permits, our guide, hotel reservations, kennel reservations, etc. all rescheduled for a later date. I felt that hotels and gas station bathrooms were immaculately clean! And of course, once we were in the Boundary Waters, there was no close contact with anyone.

Rusty and I have been making these trips since 2008; we've made 30 trips so far. We have been talking about the possibility of owning property up north for many years. We've come to the conclusion that the time is now. We found a log cabin located on 5.6 acres of wooded land. It backs up to another 35 acres of state-owned forest. It has a rough portage trail to White Iron Lake, which is only one lake away from the BWCAW. Nothing is certain until the closing is completed, but we are anticipating a closing on or before August 1 on this dream come true.

The inside is pretty much one large spacious room with a kitchen on the side. It will take awhile to make it comfortable as the stove and refrigerator will be the only items in the entire space. My first priority will be a bed. Once Covid-19 is in the rear view mirror, we hope some of you will come for a visit.
