Prairie Winds

As I'm typing this I see tiny snow flakes out the window.  The wind is a steady 25 mph, with gusts much higher.  Although the temperature is only 25º, the wind chill is 10º.  Winter seems to be on its way.

Wind has been a huge factor out here on the prairie, almost daily.  Sometimes it seems like one has to stand sideways into the wind in order to maintain balance.  I am often reminded of the early settlers and how some of them went crazy because of the wind.  Rusty is much better than me at appreciating the benefits of the wind.  Some day (maybe 10 years from now) there will be more homes, more trees, and less wind.

In the meantime, I decided we needed to find a way to enjoy what we've been given--WIND!

Many thanks to Olivia and Chad for providing the seed money  (my birthday present) for the wind sculpture!  I absolutely love it!!!

The artist, Lyman Whitaker. says he "hopes above all that his sculptures will inspire love for our earth's thin, moving layer of air--it warms us, give us breath, sustains our being."

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

When time and place give you wind, get a wind sculpture!
