Vacation at Ramrod Key

Living area of our house.
We stayed with Jeff & Karen on Ramrod Key.  It's about 25 miles north of Key West; a very tiny key, not even on many maps.  The weather was warm and sunny.  The first day we were there, Jeff took us sailing and we had a beautiful surprise.  Eight very large dolphin swam up to our boat and played around it for a few minutes.  Very cool!

View from the porch.

Rusty's hand is reaching out to them.
Not a bad pic for my little point-n-shoot taken in a moving sailboat.

"Street" to our house.

It was a lot of work with sharp instruments to harvest the meat from a coconut!

Canals are dug out between rows of homes to give everyone access to the water.

We sailed past a derelict ship, home to many large birds.
One day the neighbor, a retired tug boat captain from Long Island Sound, offered to take us out on the seas in his boat.   He had a glass bottom window in the boat so we could see the coral reefs.  He took us past Little Palm Island.

Rusty and I went to the beach on Bahia Honda Key.  I picked up shells for Pierce and Reece.
Catchin' some rays!

The ocean is so gorgeous!
Saturday night was  "date night" for us at Key West.  We had dinner at Blackfin Bistro and martinis at Martin's.

Roosters of all colors roam the streets.
Then we headed down to Mallory Square to watch the sun set.  So gorgeous!

We went to church at St. Peter's on Big Pine Key.  Their website started with these words:

No matter what your present status in the Catholic Church,

No matter what your current family or marital situation,

No matter what your past or present religious situation,

No matter your personal history, age, background, race, etc.,

No matter what your own self-image or esteem,

You are

INVITED, WELCOMED, ACCEPTED,

LOVED and RESPECTED at

St. Peter Catholic Church

Wow!  It was a beautiful experience!  People greeted us with love and warmth.

We went to dinner with Jeff and Karen at The Fishery, a local spot that brings in the fresh catch every day.  Super Yummy!
We ate out on the dock.

Loli enjoyed coming with us.  She ate crab shells.

What a fabulous way to spend a week in January!  Thanks, Karen and Jeff!
This picture says it all!

  1. Looks like a wonderful time! What a great vacation spot, the Keys. One of Chad's and my favorites. Wouldn't it be great if the church posting was on every church door as it should be. Glad you had a good time! Love, Olivia
