Winter Fun at Snowshoe Trail, Feb. 2012

We rented a small, primitive cabin called the Wolverine at Snowshoe Trail.  Wood stove for heat.  Water is a block away at the pump house.  Wood can be gathered from the wood barn each day.  No cell phone service!

After the first day, it was easy to keep the cabin warm with our wood stove.

The cabin was about 12' x 15' with a loft for sleeping.
We went x-country skiing and snowshoeing every day.  Sometimes we would ski on trails, other times on the lake.

When we were skiing on the lake, we were in the bog with wild rice.
We had the entire area to ourselves, as there were no other campers.  Rusty hauled water from the well and I checked out the wireless service.

This is my iPad on top of the pump.  You can't see it, but it's showing the Lincoln Journal Star article about the artwork I did for the upcoming Mayor's Race.
We enjoyed some hot cocoa after a cold afternoon outside.

The sauna was primitive, but worked quite well.  First we had to build a fire and wait for the room to heat (about 1.5 hours).  Then we sat on the bleachers and added water to the hot rocks.  After all was said and done, the hot water in the tank could be transferred to a raised tub for showering.

We went to Ely for a burger and beer one afternoon.  These are pictures from the Winter Festival that was held the day before our arrival.
